Dr Siddhartha Kar joined the Early Cancer Institute as a Group Leader on 1st March 2023. His group will focus on understanding cancer risk, initiation, and development using integrative germline and somatic cancer genetic epidemiology.

Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald, director of the Early Cancer Institute, has received an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to cancer. She was recognised in the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee Birthday Honours List in 2022, and received the OBE in Windsor in February 2023. Her research is focused on developing new ways to detect oesophageal cancer early and she has led pioneering advances in research and technological innovation to detect cancer earlier in order to improve outcomes for cancer patients.

A full planning application to build a new specialist cancer research hospital for the region on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus has been submitted to Cambridge City Council. The new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) will change the story of cancer. It will bring together clinical and research expertise in a new-world class hospital for the East of England to detect cancer earlier, treat it more precisely and save more lives.
