Congratulations to Prof Serena Nik-Zainal who has been announced as the recipient of the 2024 ESMO Award for Translational Research.
Serena is Professor of Genomic Medicine and Bioinformatics and Honorary Consultant in Clinical Genetics at the University of Cambridge.
At the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, she leads the Genomic Medicine theme, advancing the whole cancer genomics field through computational and experimental approaches to ultimately create clinical applications.
Her large research group, which studies the physiology of mutagenesis combining computational approaches with experimental and cancer data, is co-located between the Department of Medical Genetics and the Early Cancer Institute at the University of Cambridge.
Serena commented: “I am delighted to have been awarded this amazing accolade and thank all my colleagues and collaborators whose invaluable assistance has made this possible.”
Nik-Zainal is being recognised for her outstanding research in the field of mutational signatures and her efforts to accelerate the translation of mutational signatures into the clinical domain.
The award will be presented to Serena in person by the President and Chair at the opening ceremony of the ESMO 2024 Congress in Barcelona next month.
