International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED) Summer School

Evaluation of Early Detection of Cancer Testing

Date: Monday 4th to Friday 8th September 2023
Time: 4 - 7pm BST (08:00 - 11:00 PDT)
Virtual: Registration via Eventbrite

The 2023 ACED Online Summer School will be delivered online focussing on the question: "We've discovered a potential biomarker for cancer early detection, what's next?”

The summer school is aimed at PhD students, healthcare professionals and early career researchers of all stages and will cover the steps that are required following initial biomarker discovery in the validation, development and translation of early detection of cancer testing.

Attendees will hear from experts across multiple disciplines on the science of validating early detection tests, differences between predictive or diagnostic tests, evaluating their clinical utility, and the study designs for various stages along the translational pathway, supported by case studies from successfully developed tests. The school will also have a dedicated session on science communication training, and attendees will take part in a group activity designed to develop a plan to assess biomarker clinical utility.

Presenters include international experts on a variety of early detection-related topics. There will also be presentations from members of the public and patient representatives, and opportunities to network with peers from different academic and industry organisations.
