I am a Clinician Scientist and Junior Group Leader with a research focus on understanding how oesophageal and gastric cancers adapt to and resist treatment.
I read Medical Sciences and Medicine at the University of Birmingham, graduating with the Vice Chancellor’s Prize in 2013. I then secured a post on the Academic Foundation Programme in Birmingham before moving to the University of Leeds in 2015 to take up an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Clinical Oncology. I was subsequently awarded a Wellcome Clinical Research Training Fellowship in 2017, within which I completed a doctorate focused on characterising cell signalling pathways implicated in Barrett’s oesophagus progression. In 2022, I moved to the University of Cambridge to take up a Clinical Lectureship based between the Cambridge CRUK Radiation Research Centre of Excellence and Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald’s group at the Early Cancer Institute. Within this, I explored the interplay between oesophageal adenocarcinoma heterogeneity, tumour evolution and therapy response. I established my own group at the Early Cancer Institute in 2026, having been awarded a CRUK Clinician Scientist Fellowship as well as the Loke Medical Sciences Fellowship funded by King’s College Cambridge.
Project information
Our research focuses on how oesophageal and gastric cancers adapt to and resist therapies, with the aim of developing kinder, more successful treatment approaches that complement early detection strategies. We are particularly interested in how novel approaches to delivering radiotherapy, specifically targeted radionuclide therapy, can improve outcomes by overcoming disease heterogeneity.
