Harveer Dev awarded promotion to Honorary Consultant in Urology

We are delighted to report that Early Cancer Institute group leader Harveer Dev has been promoted to the role of Honorary Consultant in Urology at the Cambridge University Hospitals. The post is a joint clinical and academic appointment which will see Harvey continuing his clinical work with prostate cancer patients as well as leading his academic research group at the Early Cancer Institute.

The research in the Dev Group focuses on early prostate cancers, studying how changes in DNA cause some cancers to progress from slow-growing and relatively harmless to aggressive and potentially life-threatening. The group also investigates how these DNA changes affect the tumour’s surrounding environment and whether they can be used to detect cancer earlier and predict how well a patient will respond to treatment.

Alongside this, the Dev Group researchers are developing new blood tests that can help detect cancer, identify patients at higher risk, and monitor treatment effectiveness. The aim is to bring these tests into routine clinical care, enabling doctors to diagnose cancer earlier, choose the most appropriate treatment for each patient, and intervene before the disease becomes more advanced.

Bringing together clinical practice and research gives us a unique opportunity to address some of the most important challenges in prostate cancer care. Ultimately, we hope to improve early detection, better identify those at highest risk, and ensure that patients receive the right treatment at the right time."
