Last week the Early Cancer Institute at the University of Cambridge welcomed its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) members for the first meeting of the new committee.
The SAB brings together leading figures from academia and industry with an interest and expertise in early cancer, its prevention, detection and treatment. Its primary role is to provide expert guidance on the future strategic direction of the ECI and offer critical and constructive insight into major decision making.
The event took place at Madingley Hall and followed the previous day’s ECI Annual Symposium. We were fortunate that most SAB members also attended the Symposium which provided them with an insight into the breadth of our work, and we were particularly pleased that some of them agreed to sit on the judging panel for the short talk session from early career researchers.
During the meeting the Board engaged in productive discussions on key topics including collaboration with the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital and strategies for engaging with industry most effectively.
Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald, Director of the Early Cancer Institute, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome such an accomplished group of advisors to support the ECI’s mission. Their insights and experience will be invaluable as we shape the future of our Institute.”
The discussions were thoughtful and productive and we look forward to working with our new Scientific Advisory Board to realise the Institute’s long-term vision and accelerate progress in early cancer research.
