We are delighted to announce that today the first episode of Coffee Break Science, a new podcast series, has “dropped”.
The series is the brainchild of Early Cancer Institute researcher Dr Ahsen Ustaoglu. It will feature powerful stories from those whose lives have been affected by cancer, and aims to shine a light on some of the groundbreaking research that is taking place at the University of Cambridge.
As a breast cancer survivor herself, Ahsen brings a particularly insightful and empathetic perspective to the series in her chats with patients, their families and researchers.
In this first episode, “Beyond the Statistics: Ovarian Cancer from Community to Clinic”, Ahsen speaks with Christen Williams, co-founder of the cancer prevention charity BRCA Chat which offers support to individuals who are navigating a BRCA gene mutation. The charity raises awareness about these mutations and provides a safe and welcoming space for discussions on prevention, treatment, testing and emotional support.
Dr Siddhartha Kar, Associate Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and ECI Group Leader, then expertly describes the scientific landscape and risk factors involved in ovarian cancer development.
